What type of wood should I use?

I’m making a jewelry box for my girlfriend’s birthday, but for the life of me, I can’t decide which type of wood to use.

What about teak, a beautify long lasting tropical hardwood that conjures up images of treasure chests and romance – particularly appropriate if your girlfriend’s a pirate I guess! Alternatively, how about a rich cherry or walnut perhaps? Don’t know if you’ve seen it but there’s a pretty good guide to wood I found on the Terry Waters French Polishing site below.
